2024 ESTECO Academy video contest - Rules & Regulations

This Contest is organized by ESTECO SpA, located at AREA Science Park, Padriciano 99, Trieste, Italy (“ESTECO”).

1. ELIGIBILITY

The 2024 ESTECO Academy video contest (“Contest”) is open to all ESTECO Academy users worldwide in possession of an active modeFRONTIER license. Participants (“Entrants”) can be individuals or teams up to 5 people currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate university course who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry.
The aim of the video (“Entry”) is to demonstrate the use of modeFRONTIER, the ESTECO flagship solution for simulation process automation and design optimization.

2. CONTEST TERM

The Contest officially opens on December 12, 2023 with a Call for videos announcement and registrations start the same day. Video submissions start from March, 2024 and close on April 30, 2024 (11:59 PM EST).
Winners will be notified by May 20, 2024 and the Award ceremony will take place in Trieste (Italy) during the ESTECO International Users’ Meeting 2024, on June 4-5, 2024. Winners are more than welcome to take part in the ceremony at their own expense.

3. REGISTRATION/CONTEST INFORMATION

Registration (“Registration”) for the Contest is free of charge. The registration form is available here both for individuals and for teams. Further information and instructions about the video submission will follow via email.
ESTECO will not refund any cost for the video preparation: Students / Teams are solely responsible for any expenses incurred to participate in the video contest.

4. ACCEPTANCE OF CONTEST RULES

Participation in the Contest constitutes the Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Contest rules. In order for an Entry to be eligible to win, the Entry must fulfill all Contest rules. ESTECO reserves the sole right to disqualify any video, at any time, for any violation of or lack of adherence to these Contest rules.

5. ENTRY INFORMATION AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

5.1 To submit an Entry to the Contest, Entrant must successfully complete Registration.
5.2 Entries must consist of the following:
A 2 (two) to 5 (five) minute (maximum duration) video describing the Challenge, the Solution and the Benefits of using modeFRONTIER in a design optimization project.
The video shall not include copyrighted material (music, video, images etc.).
Video content requirements:

  • Presentation of the Student / Team, including Name of the Student / Team, University;
  • Country, Title of the project;
  • Description of the design challenge and the objective of the optimization;
  • Mention other CAE tools involved (if any);
  • Highlight modeFRONTIER benefits and optimization results;
  • Lessons learned and overall experience.

Format:

  • All entries must be saved in one of the following formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, MP4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS. Please save your video file as [Student full name]-[University] or [Team name]-[University] (this is for submission purposes only; the unique name that you choose when filling out your Entry Form will be the name published alongside your video).
  • If you’re filming on your phone, please ensure that you film using landscape view to guarantee that it appears properly on YouTube.
  • Entrants are welcome to be creative and use original music or alternatively copyright-free stock sound track, voice overs, etc. for their soundtrack.
  • All Entries must either be submitted in English or, if in another language, include English subtitles.
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 Videos must be in a format acceptable for YouTube.
  • Resolution: 1280 x 720p or 1920 x 1080p.

5.3 Any Entry containing software viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, or other computer code designed to disrupt, damage, or limit the functioning of any software or hardware will be disqualified and legal action may be pursued against the Entrant.

5.4 By entering this Contest, the Entrant warrants that:
a. The Entry is the Entrant’s original work.
b. Neither the Entry nor its use infringes any intellectual property rights (such as a patent, a utility model, a design right, a trademark, a copyright, or a trade secret) of any other party.

5.5 Intellectual property (IP) of the projects will be wholly owned by the inventors. Upon registration for the Contest, any Entrant must provide ESTECO with a written authorization to use the same video material in compliance with the authorization form available here. The authorization shall be signed and sent when submitting the video.

5.6 All Entrants are required to promptly notify ESTECO about changes to their Registrations (e.g., address, email address, etc.).

6. JURY AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

A Jury made up of three engineering experts from ESTECO, academia and the industry will evaluate submitted Entries (the “Judges”) by May 15, 2024. The jury’s decision is final and unquestionable. Entries will be judged on the basis of following criteria (the “Evaluation Criteria”):

  • Technical quality of the engineering project (20 points):
    • Multidisciplinary nature of the optimization project and complexity of the model(s)
    • Quality and effectiveness of the optimization results
    • Description and screenshot(s) of the rendered project
    • Positive impact of the project in a particular field
  • Innovation (20 points):
    • Originality and creativity of the project: the project displays originality or creativity in its research methodology and/or interpretation of the results. The project explores a new issue, or an existing issue with an original approach.
    • Innovative design
  • Overall effectiveness of delivery (20 points):
    • Clarity of explanation to a non expert audience: the student/team has the capacity to communicate in a simple, clear and concise manner about the challenges, results and limitations of the project.
    • Quality of the video: Lighting, Editing, Sound (poor sound quality can adversely affect all other judging criteria).

For teams only:

  • Collaboration (20 points)
    • Teamwork, collaboration and management

Sustainability special category:

  • 10 potential bonus points will be awarded to the project which demonstrates to have a sustainable impact.
7. THE PRIZES

ESTECO will notify the winners via email (PEC for Italian Entrants) no later than May 20, 2024. An award ceremony is scheduled during the ESTECO Users’ Meeting 2024 which will take place in Trieste, Italy, on June 4 and 5.
The prizes outlined below are awarded per Entry, not per Entrant. Meaning, whether an Entry is submitted by an individual or a team, the prize amount doesn’t change. Teams, if awarded a prize, will be responsible for naming an individual member to whom the prize will be delivered (Team leader). This individual member will then equally split the prize amongst the team members listed during the Registration.
The prizes are as follows:
Single Student Prize: 750,00 EUR
Single Graduate / PhD Prize: 750,00 EUR .
Student Team Prize*: 1500,00 EUR.

*The total amount of the prize will be transferred to the responsible Team leader (see above). A letter will be signed by the Team member, with the list of all the team members and a commitment from the Team leader to transfer the total amount split in equal parts.

Entrants will have thirty (30) days from the date of notification (from May 20 to June 20, 2024) to claim their prize. If an Entrant does not claim their prize within this time period, a new winner will be selected.

8. GENERAL CONDITIONS

ESTECO reserves the sole right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Contest or Contest rules. In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way for any reason, including, but not limited to, fraud, virus, or other technical problem, ESTECO may, in its sole discretion:
a. suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Contest in a manner that best conforms to the spirit of these Contest Rules; or
b. award the prize according to the Judging Criteria from among the eligible Entries received up to the time of the impairment.
ESTECO reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Entrant who provides false Registration information or that it finds to be tampering with the Entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Contest rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be in violation of criminal and civil law, and should such an attempt be made, ESTECO reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. ESTECO’s failure to enforce any term of these Contest Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that term.

9. GOVERNING LAW

The Contest is subject to Italian laws and regulations. This Contest is being administered in Italy and shall only be construed and evaluated according to Italian law.

10. SEVERABILITY

If any term of these Contest rules shall be found to be void or contrary to law, such term shall be deemed to be severable from the other terms and provisions herein, and the remainder of these Contest rules shall remain in effect.
